Submit maps and artwork for exhibition, workshop proposals, and event ideas for the second Triangle Community Cartographies Convergence and exhibit, to be held September - October 2008. Details below... What: Triangle Community Cartographies Convergence -- Two months of events exploring community cartography, radical map-making, spatial activism and their possibilities for the Triangle, accompanied by a multi-site collaborative exhibition, and culminating in the convergence itself, a day of workshops, networking and collaboration. Events will run September through mid-October. Saturday, September 6 is an open gathering to plan and hang the exhibition, and close Saturday October 18 with the daylong convergence. Proposals for events between those two dates are encouraged (as are autonomously organized events!). Events already planned or in the works include:

September 5th: 3:30 PM Counter Cartographies Colloquium -- Geographers and Counter-Mappers John Krygier and Jeremy Crampton present their work at the Geography Department Colloquium in Saunders Hall, UNC Campus 7 PM Garbage Maps, Neighborhood Atlases, and Counter-Cartographies -- Public lecture and slideshow by Lize Mogel, Alexis Bhagat, Denis Wood at the main auditorium in the Global Education Center on UNC's campus.
September 6th Noon - 6 PM North Carolina Counter Cartographies Convergence Planning. At the Golden Belts Arts studio building (building 3), east of downtown Durham. September 13 Urban Farm Tour in in Carrboro and Chapel Hill. September 23
7 PM An Atlas of Radical Cartography exhibition opens at the Global Education Center, UNC campus. Reception and brief welcoming speeches.
October 16th Talk by radical cartographer Trevor Paglin at Duke
October 18th North Carolina Counter Cartographies Convergence Main Event and closing. All day at the Golden Belts Arts studio building (building 3), east of downtown Durham |
