4:00 PM – 6:00 PM: Joint panel and reception with Trevor Paglen and attendees of the Secrecy conference

Saturday’s convergence, like the exhibit itself, will be a self-organizing event. We’ll start the day, over coffee, with introductions. We’ll draw up a schedule of workshops based on the responses received to this email (see below), and then anyone in attendance will have the chance to give a 5 minute presentation about their work (we’ll have a projector set up as well, let us know if you need more multimedia). Over lunch, we’ll all have a chance to continue the conversations started by the presentations, and then for the rest of the afternoon we’ll break off into workshops on-site and mapping drifts and performances across Durham. At 4:00 PM we’ll gather back at the main Golden Belt space for a panel with Trevor Paglen, Lize Mogel, and other attendees, and then close the day with a reception.

Workshops proposed for the afternoon already include a talk by the Beehive Collective and a drift through Durham using Sabri Reed’s “vector compass”. If you want to lead a workshop or activity, or have an idea for one you’d like to take part in, email us at countercartographies@unc.edu. Funding is available for limited materials costs. If you plan to attend, please RSVP so we can get a head-count for lunch. Look forward to seeing you there!
